Happy Thanksgiving!

This week went by so quickly!  We enjoyed some Thanksgiving activities this week and wrapped up all of our units!  We will be ready to start fresh when we come back from break!

We did some tasty turkey math today!

We made some shapely patterned turkeys on Monday!

We enjoyed reading and acting out the story: There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie!

I hope your family has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Book Planning and Circle Making

In writer's workshop we practiced planning a book.  The kiddos each had a partner and a blank book.  They came up with an idea for their book and then talked with their partner about what they would put on each page and what they would write about.  It was great to hear the conversations the kiddos were having with each other.

This afternoon we had to finish up a few circle pages in our shape books!  The kiddos loved building with pipe cleaners to make different kinds of circles!  There were some very creative thinkers!

Learning Shapes!

Our focus this week for math and our theme study is all about shapes!  We are working on both 3-D shapes (solids) and 2-D shapes (flat).  The kids are picking up on the difference pretty fast and are having a great time learning about shapes!

During our theme study today we began focusing on the circle!  We went on a shape hunt around our room to find some circles! Below are the pictures of things we found!

Phone Numbers and Moon Phases

We are working hard on our phone numbers!  Today we had fun doing "Jump and Dial!"  This will be a choice time center for the children the next few weeks.

During theme time today we talked all about the moon!  We have learned some great facts about the moon and the sun so far this week!  Today after reading about the moon, we ate our way through the phases of the moon with crackers!  A few kiddos remarked that they would like to try this at home!

   Here is our full moon!

 Here is the gibbous phase!

Here is the quarter  moon phase!

Finally the crescent moon!  And then the moon completely disappeared with the new moon phase.  Yummy!
